How Much Raw Food Should I Feed My Dog?

One of the most common questions dog owners ask is: how much raw food should I feed my dog? Feeding the correct amount is important for maintaining a healthy weight, good digestion and overall wellbeing.

Adult Dogs

As a general guide, adult dogs are fed around 2% of their ideal body weight per day. This suits most healthy adult dogs with a normal activity level.

For example, a 20kg adult dog would usually eat around 400g of raw food per day, split into one or two meals.

Puppies

Puppies need more food because they are growing and developing. Most puppies are fed around 5% of their body weight, depending on age, breed and growth rate. Meals should be spread across the day to support healthy growth.

Senior Dogs

Older and senior dogs usually need less food than adult dogs due to reduced movement and exercise. Feeding amounts often need adjusting to prevent weight gain while still supporting joints and overall health.

Raw feeding is not one-size-fits-all. Factors such as age, activity level, metabolism and health conditions all matter.

At Wild Tails, we can help guide you through the process, answer any questions you have and support you every step of the way. We always take the time to listen and do our very best to help you find the right feeding plan for your dog.
