At Wild Tails, many of the dogs we support are already doing really well on raw — good energy, good stools, happy dogs.
However, one thing we regularly come across is confusion around 80/10/10 raw feeding.
Firstly, let’s clarify what 80/10/10 refers to: 80% meat, 10% ground bone. 10% offal (such as liver, heart and kidney).
A lot of owners have been told somewhere else that 80/10/10 is “complete”, when in reality it is a base diet, not a fully balanced one on its own.
That doesn’t mean your dog is unhealthy. It simply means that some essential nutrients may not be included unless they’re added in correctly

Why 80/10/10 Often Needs Supporting
80/10/10 focuses on meat, bone and offal, which is a great foundation.
However, it doesn’t naturally provide everything dogs need long-term, such as:
- Certain vitamins and trace minerals
- Essential fatty acids
- Plant-based phytonutrients
This is why many experienced raw feeders choose to complete the diet rather than change it — and this is where the following options come in.
Option 1 – Adding your own vegetables, fruits, herbs and superfoods. Also known as the DIY method
Please ensure that if sharing human food with your dog or cat that there is no added salt or sugar.
We recommend that meat, bone and offal makes up around 80 to 85% of the meal, leaving 15 to 20% for the veg, fruit etc. Dogs and cats are not as good as us at breaking down and digesting plant matter, so there’s no point over-doing the greens, you’ll be picking up more poo than necessary.
Option 2 – Complete and Balanced Recipes (pre-prepared and freshly frozen – defrost and serve)
These pre-prepared, freshly frozen meals are formulated to be Complete and Balanced with everything your dog or cat needs in the right proportions. Just defrost and serve. Simple! Wild Tails are proud to stock a wide range of Complete and Balanced meals.

Option 3 – Convert 80/10/10 to Complete and Balanced with a mix-in supplement
At Wild Tails, we help you choose the best supplement for your dog, based on what you’re feeding and your dog as an individual.
